Collaboration between SDA-Lab and The University of Seville

Dr. Javier Fernando Jiménez-Alonso spent a research visit to SDA-Lab in July 2023 as part of a research collaboration between University College Dublin and The University of Seville. Dr. Jiménez-Alonso is Associate Professor at the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis of the University of Seville. During the last five years, one of his research lines has been to develop computational tools to assist structural engineers in the solution of the high fidelity FE model updating problem formulated via the maximum likelihood method.
Currently, one of his main research lines is to integrate structural information-modelling, finite-element-model updating, vibration-based structural health monitoring and machine-learning to create digital twin models and to implement these models for the damage identification in civil engineering structures.
His main motivation for this research visit at the SDALab of UCD is to have the opportunity of knowing the state-of-the art of the implementation of the statistical learning techniques for the damage detection in bridge structures. This research visit has been funded by the Erasmus+ program of the University of Seville.
